Benjamin A. Baroody

Ben Baroody is a shareholder in the firm’s litigation department. He is an experienced trial lawyer who has:

  • Tried more than thirty cases to verdict in the Circuit, Probate, and Administrative Law Courts of South Carolina.
  • Argued in countless hearings before Federal and State Court Judges in South Carolina and North Carolina.
  • Argued appeals of cases before the Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals of South Carolina.
  • Represented several clients undergoing employment-related investigations by the United States Department of Labor, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and the South Carolina Department of Revenue.
  • Represented several clients in appeals of property tax assessments in Horry, Charleston, and Beaufort Counties.

Ben’s litigation practice focuses on representation of both business and individuals in all aspects of business (corporate and commercial), employment, real estate, and probate disputes. 

While most of Ben’s cases involve the defense of various businesses, employers, and business owners, he has also represented various individuals and companies in prosecuting their cases.  He has successfully litigated cases resulting in settlements for his clients in excess of $1,000,000.00. Ben’s business clients include the owners and operators of resorts and hotels, golf courses, mobile home parks, restaurant groups, real estate developers, contractors, banks, and non-profit organizations in the area, for whom he prepares contracts and advises with respect to employment and human resources matters.

Ben maintains a substantial Employment Law practice in which he:

  • advises clients on compliance with State and Federal Employment laws.
  • prepares employment contracts, independent contractor agreements, non-compete/non-solicitation/non-disclosure agreements, severance agreements, employee handbooks, employment policies, and various other employment-related documents.
  • advises clients in hiring and termination of employees.

Ben has represented numerous property owners in appealing property tax assessments in Horry, Charleston, and Beaufort Counties with collective values in the hundreds of millions in assessable value. He has appeared before the Boards of Assessment Appeals and tried cases before the Administrative Law Court.

Ben graduated from The Citadel cum laude and as a member of the Phi Kappa Phi honor society with a B.A. in English. As a cadet, he was:

  • Chairman of the Honor Committee
  • President of the Inn of Court
  • Opinion Editor of the Brigadier
  • Member of the Round Table
  • Recipient of the Harry S. Dent Scholarship for Americanism

He also completed the Cambridge Summer Scholar Program at Selwyn College, Cambridge University in England.

He has since been inducted and initiated into the Theta Commission of the Kappa Alpha Order as a Citadel Alumnus.

He went on to graduate from the University of South Carolina School of Law where he was:

  • Manager of the National Moot Court Team
  • Associate Justice of Competitions of the Moot Court Bar
  • Member of the John Belton O’Neill Inn of Court

Ben joined the law firm of Aiken Bridges, P.A. in Florence following graduation from law school, where he practiced for three years as a trial lawyer.

Ben joined the Bellamy Law Firm as an associate in May of 2007 and was elected Shareholder in 2013. Since moving to the Grand Strand, Ben has served as:

  • President of the Horry County Bar Association
  • President of the Grand Strand Sertoma Club
  • 15th Circuit Representative to the South Carolina Bar Young Lawyers Division
  • Member of the South Carolina Judicial Qualifications Committee
  • Chairman of the Board of the St. Peters Lutheran Church Preschool

  • Member of the Chamber of Commerce’s Legislative Policy Counsel

Ben is a native of Florence, South Carolina, where he attended West Florence High School and served as President of Youth in Government and played on the varsity Golf Team.
