Biography

Jill was born in Yokohama, Japan in 1949.  Her family returned to the United States and settled in Georgetown, South Carolina where she graduated from Winyah High School. Jill attended Stephens College in Missouri and graduated in three years with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Jill served in Brazil in the Peace Corps in 1971, worked as a regional representative for the American Cancer Society, and was a social worker for the South Carolina Department of Social Services. Jill also worked as a teacher for the Georgetown County, South Carolina school system. In 1979 Jill returned to school to pursue a Juris Doctorate degree. Jill attended the University of South Carolina School of Law and graduated in 1982. While in law school, Jill was a member of Phi Delta Phi fraternity and was President of the Women’s Law Association. Upon graduation from law school, Jill served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Lawrence E. Richter Jr., Ninth Judicial Circuit, in Charleston, South Carolina.

Jill joined the Bellamy Law Firm in 1983. Jill’s practice focuses on residential and commercial real estate. Jill has worked with developers on numerous condominium developments, single-family residential subdivisions, and commercial developments. Jill is a member of the Horry County and South Carolina Bar Associations. In 1982, Jill was admitted to the Supreme Court of South Carolina, and later to the United States Supreme Court Bar Association.

Jill is very active in the Myrtle Beach community. She is a former board member and past president for the Grand Strand Humane Society, Myrtle Beach Chicora Rotary and the Theater of the Republic. She is a past board member of The Children’s Museum of South Carolina and Habitat for Humanity for Horry County. Jill is a member of First Presbyterian Church, the Dunes Golf and Beach Club, and serves on the development committee for the Burroughs and Chapin Art Museum. Jill is also serving as a member of the Board of Trustees for Stephens College in Missouri.

When not practicing law, Jill enjoys spending time with her husband, Dan, going to the beach, reading, and traveling.
